PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for treating water, enhanced in the removal capacity of a volatile component contained in water by a simple method and simple constitution. SOLUTION: The removal treatment of the volatile component contained in water is performed by passing water through the hollow parts of hydrophobic hollow-fiber membranes 3 of which the outer wall surfaces are placed in air passages K to volatilize the volatile component contained in water at the gas- liquid interfaces in the membranes.
