PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily carry out the removal of the phosphorus and heavy metals which is heretofore carried out by a coagulation sedimentation method and ferrite method by magnetic separation. SOLUTION: The water containing the phosphorus, heavy meals, etc., is treated by successively carrying out a paramagnetic grain fining treatment and coagulation treatment. The paramagnetic grain fining treatment is the treatment to convert the phosphorus and heavy metals contained in the water to paramagnetic particulates 3 by adding a tervalent iron salt into the water and the coagulation treatment is the treatment to magnetically coagulate the precipitate (particulates) containing the phosphorus and heavy metals to magnetically separable coagulated lumps 4 by adding ferromagnetic particulates 1 into the water after the paramagnetic grain fining treatment and impressing an external magnetic field 2 thereto.
