PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manipulate the adjustment of setting an air flow mode in the automatic operation of the gas cleaning device to the liking or intention of a user. SOLUTION: The detection values of a specified plurality of stages are set within the range of an output progress of a detection means 52 for detecting the amount of an unnecessary substance in gas and the air flow mode relative to a plurality stages of a gas treating capability which correspond to the respective detection values is set. A control part 40 automatically sets the air flow mode corresponding to the specified detection value under which the output of the detection means 52 falls and thereby operates the device. Change regulating means 46, 48 designate the corresponding relationship between each of the detection values of the specified plurality of the stages and each of the air flow modes relative to the gas treating capability of the plural stages as desired and the device is operated in the desired air flow mode when the output of the detection means 52 shows a corresponding detection value.
