PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism in which the protection and elimination of a bridge phenomenon are realized in a shreder which compresses paper cutting waste obtained by cutting a unnecessary paper sheet or the like. SOLUTION: The shreder is provided with a cutting part for cutting out a sheet of paper, a hopper 2 for storing paper cutting waste cut-out temporarily, a transport device 8 for transporting cutting waste from the bottom side of the hopper to a compression equipment, the compression equipment for compressing the paper cutting waste sent by the transport device, and a helping member 44 for helping movement of the paper cutting waste which moves to the hopper and is temporarily housed in the hopper at the transport device side of the bottom of the hopper. The paper cutting waste piled up in the hopper is dropped on the transport mechanism by approaching and separating the helping member from a reference position to the forward limit position with respect to the transport mechanism installed in the lower part of the hopper, and thus the bridge phenomenon is dissolved.
