PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filtering device for an aquarium, capable of sucking and filtering water by an air-lift effect, capable of securing the sufficient air-lift effect even if the discharging pipe for discharging a treated water and air bubbles is short, having excellent filtering capacity caused by the large water- sucking power, capable of being installed in the aquarium with good appearance, and having a reduced cost for production, transportation, preservation, or the like. SOLUTION: This filtering device for the aquarium has a vertically standing water-discharging pipe 30, water-sucking openings 8 and 17, and a bubble- forming means installed in a filtering case 10 packed with filtering materials 4A and 4B, and can suck the water from the water-sucking openings 8 and 17 by the air-lift effect accompanied with the rise of the bubbles and discharge the water upward through the filtering materials 4A and 4B. The bubble-forming means is composed of an air stone 5 in a hollow shaft-like shape plugged at the upper end by a porous material, and the diameter of the upper end part 30a of the water-discharging pipe 30 is contracted. The upper end 5a of the air stone 5 concentrically and vertically arranged in the discharging pipe 30 is positioned at the vicinity of the upper end of the discharging pipe 30.
