PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method and apparatus for heavy metals and organic chlorine compounds which are capable of sufficiently removing the hazardous heavy metals and organic chlorine compounds contained in a work or making the same non-polluting and making device constitution and treatment stage simpler than heretofore and are excellent in handling quality. SOLUTION: The treatment method for the heavy metals or the organic chlorine compounds has a reducing agent adding stage for adding the reducing agent 12 containing the salt of formic acid and/or oxalic acid to the work W and a heating stage for reducing the heavy metals or the organic chlorine compounds by heating the work W and removing the heavy meals as volatile components from the work W. The treatment apparatus 1 for this purpose has a reducing agent storage tank 11 for adding the reducing agent 12 to the work W and a heater 13 in which the work W mixed with the reducing agent 12 is housed and which heats the work W and removes the volatile components generated by the reduction of the heavy meals from the work.
