PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope capable of regularly retaining the relative positional relation between a part to be observed and an observation optical system in a constant state to perform a stable observation. SOLUTION: An objective lens 13 constituting the observation optical system and an illuminating lens 14 for emitting an illuminating light toward a body cavity internal tissue are arranged on a top cover 12, and an opening 10a communicating with a channel tube 10 is also formed in the top cover 123. As relative position retaining means for preventing the top cover 12 from sliding on the body cavity surface when the tip surface of the top cover 12 is pressed onto the body cavity surface, projection parts 12a are protrusively provided on the tip surface of the top cover 12. The projection parts 12a are integrally formed in symmetric positions to the center, for example, on the circumferential side of the top cover 12 with a necessary minimum size for imparting the frictional force for retaining the relative positional relation between the insert part tip surface and the body cavity surface and a substantially cylindrical shape having no sharp edge part.
