The invention relates to a vertically adjustable manhole cover or road cap for access to underground lines, having a tubular outer housing and an inner housing telescopically displaceable therein. In its top region, the inner housing has spaced-apart supporting devices on its outer periphery. With the supporting devices, the inner housing can be supported on the top rim of the outer housing in the retracted fitted position or, after turning, on a pre-compacted subsoil in the extended end position.
