An antibacterial agent having a high antibacterial effect which can be economically produced in a large amount from a natural material causing no problem when taken into the human body. This antibacterial agent is produced by starting with a surf clam (Spisula sachalinensis) shell powder and baking this shell powder in an inert gas atmosphere to attain a final temperature of 700 to 2500 DEG C.
