PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an imitation hair well harmonized with the human hair of the head and especially favorably usable for hiding a thinly-haired part of the head and to provide a method for producing the imitation hair by which fibers can be dyed so as to have a color and luster harmonized with the human hair of the head and the imitation hair excellent in hiding properties of the thinly-haired part can simply and efficiently be produced. SOLUTION: This imitation hair is obtained by dyeing a cellulosic fiber with a dye composition comprising a dye selected from a reactive dye, a direct dye and a vat dye so as to provide 0.01-45 pts. wt. of the dye based on 100 pts. wt. of the cellulosic fiber. The method for producing the imitation hair comprises dipping the cellulosic fiber in the dye composition and treating the cellulosic fiber at 40-100 deg.C temperature for 10-100 min.
