PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerating air conditioner having a high refrigerating efficiency in which expansion force of refrigerant in an expansion unit can be recovered sufficiently. SOLUTION: The refrigerating air conditioner 1 comprises a compressor 11 for compressing refrigerant 8 of carbon dioxide, a radiator 12 for cooling compressed refrigerant 8, an expansion unit 2 for expanding the refrigerant 8, an evaporator 13 for evaporating expanded refrigerant 8, and piping 14 for circulating the refrigerant 8. The expansion unit 2 comprises a cylinder 51 for introducing the refrigerant 8, and a piston 52 disposed to reciprocate in the cylinder 51. The timing for starting to introduce the refrigerant 8 into the cylinder 51 is earlier than the timing of the piston arriving at the top dead center.
