PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily realize a virtual copying machine by connecting a scanner to a printer on a network. SOLUTION: When a passive scanner 200 and a passive printer 300 are connected through a proxy device 600, device profiles are gathered from the devices to generate a transfer path profile. The proxy device 600 refers to the transfer path profile, issues an input request to the scanner to read image, and inputs its image data and issues an output request to the printer, so that the data received from the scanner are transferred to the printer and printed.
