PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily read an image, and also, to increase the degree of freedom in design of a side space on both sides of an outer packaging member by accurately and smoothly performing both a main-scanning/moving operation, and a sub scanning/moving operation. SOLUTION: The movement of a carriage 1 in the sub scanning direction is guided by a main rail shaft and a side rib part 30. The carriage 1 slides on the main rail shaft 24 through a slide bearing 26, and also, the carriage 1 moves in the sub scanning direction in accordance with the traveling of a pivotally supported slide roll 27 arranged on the opposite side of the main rail shaft 24 with reference to the centroid position on the side rib part 30. The upper surface of the side rib part 30 is made smaller than the slide roll 27 in width.
