PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head, which is capable of impressing magnetic fields modulated by recording signals from a perpendicular direction of a magneto-optical recording medium, in the recording of the signals and is capable of impressing alternating magnetic fields which form a prescribed angle with the intra-surface direction of the magneto-optical recording medium in reproducing of the signals and a recording and reproducing device using the same. SOLUTION: A magnetic head 10 has a core 4, having a first leg part 1, a second leg part 2 and a third leg part 3 and a coil 5 wound around the second leg part 2 of the coil 4. One end of the second leg part 2 comprises a first segment 2A composed of two slopes and a second segment 2B composed of a plane. The first leg part 1, the second leg part 2 and the third leg part 3 are arranged in the tangential direction of the magneto-optical recording medium, and the magnetic field of a direction diagonal with the magneto-optical recording medium is formed from the first segment 2A of the second leg part 2 and a magnetic field perpendicular to the magneto-optical recording medium is formed from the second segment 2B, by passing current to the coil 5.
