PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion joint device capable of supporting an expan sion cover with high strength in a simple constitution and allowing each building to largely displace in the depth direction. SOLUTION: The respective opposite wall surfaces 34a and 34b of two buildings 33a and 33b adjacent to each other at a joint space are provided with edge materials 36a and 36b fixed to be retreated inward the outer wall surface facing to an external face 35 where the joint space 32 is opened in the depth direction of the joint space 32, and projected in the mutually approaching direction. The respective edge materials 36a and 36b are provided with an expansion reinforcing means 37 expansible in the direction of a frontage vertical to the depth direction on the horizontal plane to be angular-displaced by hinges 39a and 39b, and a bellows-like expansion cover 43 having plural movable panels 41 angular-displayed by the respective connecting members 65 and 65' is provided on the expansion reinforcing means 37 from the external space 35 side.
