PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart resistance to environment to a diffraction optical element by improving sticking strength of the optical material constituting the element. SOLUTION: The diffraction optical element is essentially transparent in the wavelength region to be used. At least two different optical materials 3, 5 are laminated and a relief pattern 4 is formed on the boundary plane of at least one of the optical material 3. The boundary plane is reformed by applying a silane coupling agent or a titanate coupling agent or by irradiation with short wavelength ultraviolet rays.
