PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance measuring device for a motor vehicle capable of detecting the interference of laser light from another motor vehicle, changing the distance measuring method of the distance measuring device of its own motor vehicle according to the input form of the interference light, and measuring a distance as eliminating the effects of the interference light. SOLUTION: The distance measuring devise for a motor vehicle comprises a light emitting 7 to emit a laser beam, a light receiving means 8 to receive the laser beam, and a distance measuring means 9 to measure the distance to an object from the time of laser beam emission and the time of light reception and is provided with an interference determining means 10 to compare a predetermined distance or the delay time of laser beam propagation with the level of a light reception signal and determine interference light in the case that the level of a light reception signal is larger.
