PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication method, a communication system, a communication apparatus and an automatic telephone answering device by which privacy can be secured and voice information stored in the automatic telephone answering device can efficiently be acquired. SOLUTION: The communication apparatus 1a transmits an identification number stored therein to the automatic telephone answering device 2. The automatic telephone answering device 2 compares an identification number stored in cross-reference with voice information with the identification number sent from the communication apparatus 1a. When the compared identification numbers are coincident, the automatic telephone answering device 2 transmits only the voice information stored in cross-reference with the identification number to the communication unit 1a. The automatic telephone answering device 2 does not transmit voice information stored in cross-reference when the compared identification numbers are not coincident.
