PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the processing time of preprocessing for starting a scanning of an image. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with a light quantity control means which controls the light quantity of a light source for generating a reflected or transmitted optical image by irradiating a document placed on a platen when the kind of the document is switched and a white shading correcting means which corrects the white shading level of an image signal generated from an optical image of the document when the light quantity-control means performs the light quantity control; when the kind of the document place on the platen is not switched, the preprocessing time can be shortened.
