PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peripheral device and a printer for easily installing a driver or the like to a computer. SOLUTION: A file device controller 11 for emulating this printer as a file device is selected/connected so as to make the computer 1 connected with the printer 2 recognize the printer 2 as an external file device at the point of time of activating the printer 2. The file device controller 11 activates an installation program stored in the printer 2, installs the driver of the printer 2 in the case that it is not installed yet inside the computer 1, then switches to a printer controller 12 and ends the program.
