A device for pushing a bar a into a die g and preventing buckling of the bar during the operation comprises a pair of gripper jaws b 1 and b 2 . and guide members c 1 and c 2 which are T-shaped in cross-section. Fig. 2 (not shown). The guide members c 1 and c 2 are narrower than the jaws b 1 and b 2 and slide in grooves d 1 and d 2 in the jaws. Springs f 1 and f 2 act through push-rods 6 1 and e 2 to bias the guide members towards the die g. The bar a is gripped by the jaws which slide over the guide members c 1 and c 2 as the work slides between the members which prevent the bar from buckling. |
