PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head, capable of increasing the number of coil winding without causing a large increase or the like in DC resistance, and exhibiting satisfactory characteristics. SOLUTION: The magnetic circuit of a thin-film magnetic head 1 is provided with lower layer magnetic thin films 3 and 4 and upper layer magnetic thin film 9 and 10 for passing a magnetic flux in a direction parallel to a substrate 2, at least four magnetic columns 5, 6, 7 and 9, formed between the lower and upper layer magnetic thin films for passing a magnetic flux in a direction vertical to the substrate, and at least four thin fill coils 11, 12, 13 and 14 respectively wound around at least the four magnetic columns, and interconnected so as to mutually add signals. Among at least the four thin-film coils, the ratio between a coil winding number N1 of a magnetic gap side and a coil winding number N2 of the back side of a magnetic core is set so that the range is 2>N1/N2>1.
