PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for color conversion and a recording medium which enables more faithful color reproduction when color correction data regarding color image information exceeding the color reproduction area of an output coloration system are compressed into the color reproduction area. SOLUTION: When the color reproduction area of the output system is narrower than that of an input system and color image information which is in the color reproduction area of the input system and outside the color reproduction area of the output system is inputted, the points outside the color reproduction of the output coloration system which correspond to the color image information are compressed linearly in the Lx-axis direction where the colors on the achromatic color axis of the output coloration system are corrected up to the color reproduction area border of the output coloration system. Namely, a gray axis is shifted from a logical L axis to actualize more faithful color reproduction.
