PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera capable of preventing picture quality deterioration and easily performing negative photographing of higher picture quality. SOLUTION: When it is recognized by a negative photographing recognizing part 112a that an image pickup object is negative, in order to automatically perform (+) exposure correction, a (+) exposure correction part 112b outputs a (+) exposure correction instruction for increasing exposure to be set to an exposure control driver 117 or CCD driver 106 rather than ordinary photographing. Thus, negative image pickup is performed in the state of increasing the exposure rather than ordinary general object or positive photographing. Since the gradation of the negative film is compressed, even when (+) exposure correction is performed, the negative film can be settled within a photographic range. Further, since the signal level of an image pickup signal can be improved in average by (+) exposure correction, an S/N sufficient rather than negative photographing under ordinary exposure control similar to general object or positive photographing can be provided.
