PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analytical method capable of detecting and quantitating, simply with high sensitivity, even a very small quantity of dissolved rare earth metal ion. SOLUTION: At least one kind of cyclic phenol sulfide selected from thiacarixarene shown by formula (1) (In the formula, X is S, SO or SO2, n is an integer of 4-6, and Y is a sulfonic acid group or its metal salt.), sulfinyl thiacarixarene and sulfonyl thiacarixarene is brought into contact with a solution including rare earth metal ion, and thereafter light is irradiated to the mixed liquid, and fluorescence detection is executed.
