PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-screen display control method and an image display controller, with which high-definition on-screen display can be realized with respect to the state of disabling field discrimination almost without the phase difference of inputted vertical and horizontal synchronizing signals. SOLUTION: A present phase difference counter value is compared with a preceding phase difference counter value and the continuous period of the same phase difference is measured (steps 130, 140 and 150). After the lapse of the fixed period in such a state, the same on-screen display data are outputted to both odd-numbered and even-numbered fields (steps 160 and 190). Similarly, when the phase difference is not continued for the fixed period, the ordinary output for each field is immediately recovered (steps 170 and 180). Thus, since occasional vibrations are not generated, visibility is improved. Further, since the ordinary output can be recovered when a normal synchronizing signal is inputted, high-definition on-screen display can be realized.
