PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably burn a combustible component in gas introduced to a packed bed therein and apply heat thereto when the solid material such as a cold iron source in the shaft type packed bed. SOLUTION: A heating device is provided with the shaft type packed bed 3 in which the solid materials 14 are filled and to which the gas including the combustible component is introduced from a lower part to heat the solid materials by using the sensible heat and the latent heat of the gas. A gas outlet port 19 is provided in a part which is filled with the solid materials to make constant the thickness of the packed bed through which the gas introduced to the packed bed passes. In order to make the temperature of the gas introduced to the packed bed and the temperature of the gas in the vicinity of the inlet port 23 of combustion support gas higher than the ignition temperature of the combustible component, the inlet port of the combustion support gas for burning the combustible component is provided at one position or more of any of a gas introducing passage to the packed bed, inside of the packed bed and a position near the outlet port of the gas from the packed bed.
