PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate difficulties in readily recognizing oil levels due to reduction in the amount of an oil adhered to a surface of an oil level gauge caused by scraping down the oil in contact with an inner wall of a two-dimensional or three-dimensional bent part of an oil level gauge guide, when measuring the level by drawing a steel spring or a wire provided with a flat plate-like gauge part at a leading end from the guide from possibility of sliding a clutch in an automatic transmission, due to absorption of water splashed from an upper end of the gate into the oil caused by an abrupt negative pressure generated in an oil storage space of the transmission by splashing the water, when a vehicle heretofore passes a water reservoir, applying the water to the transmission to cool a gas of the space of the transmission. SOLUTION: A hollow and transparent tube is adopted in the level gate. A valve for opening and closing in the tube with an atmosphere of an upper end of the oil level gauge is provided, in a passage for communicating with the atmosphere through the tube or directly at an upper end of the tube itself.
