Amide compounds represented by the following general formula (I), isomers thereof or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of the same; wherein R1 represents hydrogen etc.; R2 represents hydrogen, etc.; X represents SO2, etc.; Y represents a group of the formula (III), etc.; and a is 2. These compounds exhibit a remarkable and selective Rho kinase inhibitory effect without any troublesome toxicity and are excellent in oral absorbability, pharmacokinetics (drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, etc. ) and physical properties (stability, etc.) as the compounds per se. Owing to these characteristics, these compounds are useful as remedies for various diseases in which Rho kinase participates.
