In a assignment or logging-on process between operational and/or monitoring unit (9) and a machine (2) or its associated station, an unambiguous connection is formed, either through suitable interfaces (24, 25) for bearing localization or using transmission and reception units (16, 17) of specified power and sensitivity working in limited range. Following assignment, operational and/or monitoring data is transmitted using a standardized data link (22), e.g. a fixed network and/or wireless connection between the operational and/or monitoring unit (9) and the selected machine or its components.
