NOVEL CRYSTAL OF STILBENE DERIVATIVE AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A IV-form crystal of (Z)-N-[2-methoxy-5-[2-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)vinyl]phenyl]-L-serine amide hydrochloride which can be obtained through a crystallization step employing a solvent containing at most 2 wt.% water and which, when examined by X-ray powder diffractometry, gives a pattern having peaks at least at 13.4 DEG , 18.7 DEG , 19.4 DEG , and 22.5 DEG (2 theta ). This compound is useful as an active ingredient for a carcinostatic agent. By the process, a crystal is obtained which has excellent properties desirable from the standpoint of the production of medicinal products, i.e., considerably reduced moisture adsorption and extremely high stability to water. Also provided are a process for producing the IV-form crystal and a method of using the crystal.
