LAPAROSCOPIC INSTRUMENT SLEEVE

Surgical techniques and instruments are provided for performing laparoscopic surgical procedures. The apparatus includes a sleeve having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending between the proximal and distal ends. The lumen opens at the proximal end and receives an elongated member, such as a cannula or surgical instrument, therethrough. The sleeve is resilient materi al and conformable to the outer shape of at least a distal portion of the elongate member. In one form the distal end wall includes means for opening the end wall to allow the elongate member to advance therethrough. The sleev e may also be provided with internal ribs and a flange member. Various techniques using various surgical instruments in laparoscopic procedures are also disclosed.
