A unit adapted to be mounted on the wall of a furnace comprises a gas or oil burner 4 and a recuperator 5 adapted to heat the combustion air supplied to the burner. The recuperator comprises coaxial tubes 16, 17, the inner tube 16 being connected at its lower end to a flue 7 of the furnace and at its upper end to a flue gas extractor 6 which may be a fan or an ejector as shown, the outer tube 17 being supplied at its upper end with air by a pump and being connected at its lower end by a pipe 25 to the burner 4. A tubular refractory core 18 closed at its lower end is mounted within the inner tube 16. A sliding joint or a bellows may be provided to allow expansion of the recuperator. The burner comprises an annular air manifold 13 delivering air through orifices 14 into a furnace port 10 and surrounding a central fuel entry 12 supplied by a pipe 15. The air may entrain the fuel. |
