Nucleoside analogs and their prodrug forms include a sugar moiety and a heterocyclic base moiety, wherein especially preferred sugar moieties include ribofuranose, and particularly preferred base moieties include diazole and triazole. Contemplated compounds may be employed in pharmaceutical compositions, which may be used to treat an infection, an infestation, a neoplasm, or an autoimmune disease. Further contemplated uses include immunomodulation, and particularly modulation of Type 1 and Type 2 cytokine expression.
