A contents reproducing device comprising a contents storage device for storing encrypted contents data, a key storing device for storing a key used to decode encrypted contents data or contents data provided for each group of the data, and a data reproducing device. The key storing device reads a key to be transmitted to the data reproducing device for transmission thereto by using cryptocommunication, and the data reproducing device read, on receiving the key, encrypted contents data from the contents storage device and decodes the read out contents data by using the key. The contents reproducing device further comprises a memory card storing a key and connected via a card connection device to enable the transfer of the key between the key storing device and the memory card.
