A pipeline isolating device comprising an expandable plug including a generally cylindrical body (1) adapted for insertion through an aperture (5) formed in the pipeline, the body including an expanding means (3) which may take the form of arms or an internal compliant boot having an inner contour shaped to cooperate with a plunger such that the expanding means can move between a first retracted position and a second expanded position so as to fully occlude the pipe and aperture.
