The present application provides sulphonamide derivatives of the formula: R<1>-O-CR<5>R<6>-CH2-NHSO2-R<2>, in which the variables are as defined in the claims, useful for potentiating glutamate receptor function in a patient and therefore useful for improving memory and learning ability and for treating depression, Alzheimer's disease, psychosis and cognitive defects associated with psychosis.
