Burner glassware comprises an outer tube (100) having a side wall (102) with an open end (110) and a slit (108) running through it. The slit extends in the longitudinal direction along the side wall from the open end and is defined by a first edge and a second edge both in the longitudinal direction. The first edge is displaced radially in the longitudinal direction inwardly from the second edge. Preferred Features: The first edge is arranged in the longitudinal direction with respect to the cold inert gas which flows radially within the inner surface of the tube. The tube contains a solid center.
