The invention concerns a human vacuolar H<+> acyladenosine triphosphatase C subunit 22 and polynucleotide encoding it. The invention also concerns the process of producing the polypeptide by recombinant DNA technique. The methods for treating many diseases e.g. disorders of aquatic electrolytic metabolism, osseous diseases, gastric ulcer, a variety of tumors, disorders of embryo development, inflammation, hemopathy, infection of HIV etc. utilizing the polypeptide are disclosed. The invention discloses the antagonist agains the polypeptide and therapeutic effects thereof. The invention also discloses the uses of the polynucleotide, which encodes a human vacuolar H<+> acyladenosine triphosphatase C subunit 22.
