Quaternary N-acylaminoalkyl-ammonium compounds (I), which have a saturated and/or unsaturated ethoxylated hydroxyacyl group with 16-22 carbon atoms and 1-50 oxyethylene units, are new. Quaternary N-acylaminoalkyl-ammonium compounds of formula (I), which have a saturated and/or unsaturated ethoxylated hydroxyacyl group with 16-22 carbon atoms and 1-50 oxyethylene units, are new; R<1>CO = a saturated and/or unsaturated ethoxylated hydroxyacyl group with 16-22 C atoms and 1-50 oxyethylene units; A = linear or branched 1-6 C alkylene; R<2>, R<3>, R<4> = hydrogen or 1-4 C alkyl; R<5> = 1-4 C alkyl or benzyl; X = halogen, alkylsulfate or alkylphosphate . Independent claims are also included for 3 methods for the preparation of (I) from (hardened) castor oil by ethoxylation, reaction with diamine and quaternization in any sequence.
