A method and apparatus to frequency track a local oscillator of a first wireless device (remote handset) with a clock signal of a second wireless device (base unit), said method comprising: a) determining a number of clock cycles during a length of a data symbol transmitted from said first wireless device to said second wireless device; b) comparing said determining number of clock cycles during said length of said transmitted symbol to an expected number of clock cycles during said transmitted symbol; and c) adjusting a frequency of said local oscillator based on said comparison. <IMAGE> <IMAGE>
