SOLUTION: The sheet supply device comprises a set tray 2 in which a sheet holder 1 storing sheets S is set, detecting means 3 for detecting the length of the sheet holder 1 in the direction perpendicular to the direction of discharging the sheets and determining means 4 for determining the type of the sheets S stored in the sheet holder 1 in accordance with the detection result of the detecting means 3.
