PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a corrosion inhibitor excellent especially in preventing the corrosion of a metal in contact with water. SOLUTION: A polymer having a carbonyl group and with the weight average molecular weight controlled to <=3,000 and the molecular weight distribution to <=1.8 is used as the metal corrosion inhibitor.
