PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method and apparatus for night soil and/or septic tank sludge which enables treating the night soil and/or septic tank sludge with high decomposition rate, with a simple device and operation, in a short time, without using flocculant and with a small energy quantity, rendering the same harmless, lessening the quantity of generated sludge, at the same time, preventing the scale buildup of the apparatus and reutilizing the treated water. SOLUTION: The material to be treated which consists of night soil and/or septic tank sludge is pulverized by a pulverizer 6, is adjusted to <=pH 6 with a pH adjustment agent 8, is added with a seed crystal 9, is passed through a heat exchanger 12 from a tank 1 for the material to be treated, and is concentrated by evaporation in a concentration device 2. Further, the concentrate 30 is incinerated in an incinerator 4, thereby organic material and ammonia are subjected to oxidation decomposition and purification, and the soot and smoke is treated by a soot and smoke treatment device 5.
