<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the lifetime of a thermal head from being shortened due to erroneous application of undue energy. SOLUTION: In the control method for a thermal head where printing is performed on a sheet by applying energy to heating resistors constituting the heating section of a thermal head thereby increasing the temperature at the heating section, energy for increasing the temperature of the heating resistor within a range causing no damage on the lifetime thereof is predetermined for each temperature at the heating section possible during print operation and a maximum level is set not to exceed the energy thus determined. In the print operation, temperature at the heating section is detected and energy being applied to the heating resistor is regulated lower than the maximum level corresponding to that temperature (S6-S9) thus preventing erroneous application of undue energy.</p> |
