PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas treatment apparatus and method capable of effectively suppressing the clogging problem caused by dust in gas to be treated while reducing cost by employing a fixed bed type activated carbon adsorbing tower. SOLUTION: The fixed bed type activated carbon adsorbing tower whick houses activated carbon to remove a substance to be treated from dust- containing gas to be treated by the adsorbing action of activated carbon, the inlet line connected to the adsorbing tower to introduce the gas to be treated into the adsorbing tower and a washing mechanism for washing activated carbon housed in the adsorbing tower when the clogging of the adsorbing tower are provided. The gas to be treated is brought to a moisture unsaturated state at a point of time when it is introduced into the adsorbing tower.
