PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a high performance copper-tin series metallic friction material reduced in the segregation of tin. SOLUTION: This method of producing the friction material is provided with a process for mixing powders of cupper-tin metal, ceramics and graphite, a process for compacting the powdery mixture under the pressure of >3 MPa, and a process for sintering the compact.
