PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a norbornene-based polymer without containing a residual monomer while keeping excellent properties such as heat resistance and a mechanical strength which a polynorbornene-based molded product possesses and to obtain the norbornene-based polymer produced by the method of production. SOLUTION: This method of producing the norbornene-based polymer is composed of carrying out metathesis polymerization of a norbornene-based monomer in the presence of a metathesis polymerization catalyst, a monomer having an unsaturated bond having metathesis reactivity and a liquid component without relating to the metathesis polymerization reaction and is characterized in that >=60 wt.% of the norbornene-based monomer is a compound having two or more aliphatic unsaturated bonds and the liquid component without relating to the metathesis polymerization reaction is in an amount of <=20 wt.% based on the whole charged components when polymerized.
