METHOD OF PRODUCING AROMATIC POLYCARBONATE AND AROMATIC POLYCARBONATE CHANGED IN MOLECULAR WEIGHT BY THE METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aromatic polycarbonate having a molecular weight changed as compared with that of a raw material aromatic polycarbonate (A) by obtaining a mixture comprising a mixture of aromatic cyclic carbonates and a linear aromatic polycarbonate having a low molecular weight from the aromatic polycarbonate resin (A) and reacting the resultant mixture. SOLUTION: The aromatic polycarbonate (A) is reacted in the presence of an alkali metal compound catalyst in a solvent to produce the mixture comprising the mixture of the aromatic cyclic carbonates and the linear aromatic polycarbonate having the molecular weight lowered as compared with that of the aromatic polycarbonate (A) (a first step) and the resultant mixture is then reacted to produce the aromatic polycarbonate (a second step).
