PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alumina-based composite sintered compact made excellent not only in wear resistance but also in chipping resistance by removing the disadvantages of the alumina-based composite sintered compact and to provide a wear-resistant member and a method for manufacturing the alumina- based composite sintered compact. SOLUTION: This alimina-based composite sintered compact contains alumina as a principal component, a carbonitride of one or more element of groups IVa, Va and VIa in the periodic table and/or a carbonitride of a solid solution of two more elements of groups IVa, Va and VIa of the periodic table. The amount of dissolved nitrogen in the carbobitrideb increases from the inside of the sintered compact to its surface. The surface of the sintered compact has 19.5 GPa or higher Vickers hardness. |
